Did you know that Two Small Men has more than 35 locations across the country? Our team members love the communities they live and work in, and they’re always excited to share their favorite things with people moving there. Inspired by this, we decided to start a new series on our blog called the City Spotlight. Each month, we’ll highlight one of the cities our movers are located in. This week’s city spotlight: living in Calgary!

Calgary is one of our main locations. With a large team and involvement in some great charities and organizations, we’re proud to be part of this vibrant city. If you’re moving to Calgary, here are some things you’ll be interested in learning about your new home.

About Calgary

Calgary is located in southern Alberta, just east of the stunning Canadian Rockies and along the Bow and Elbow rivers. While it isn’t the provincial capital, Calgary was the largest city in Alberta as of the 2016 census, with a population of 1,239,220. It’s also the third-largest municipality in Canada.

Fun Fact: Calgary was named after a hamlet on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. This city is a powerhouse in the business world, home to many head offices for major oil and gas companies. With the second-highest concentration of head offices in Canada (behind only Toronto), companies like Suncor, WestJet, Shaw Communications, and the Canadian Pacific Railway have their headquarters here.

The city's proximity to the Rocky Mountains is a major draw for many people considering a move to Calgary. A short drive away, the mountains offer hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, and more. With abundant wildlife and stunning landscapes, the mountains (visible from parts of the city) won’t disappoint no matter how many times you visit.
