Local Moving Company in Calgary

Most Calgary moves don't go far — a place across town, a first condo, maybe an upsize out to the suburbs. Anything under about 50 km we call a local move, and it's the bulk of what we do here. Beltline to Bowness, Signal Hill to Seton — our crews already know the streets and the buildings, and, more to the point, where you're actually allowed to leave a truck. How a local move works

First we do a walkthrough, in person or over video, to see what you've got and flag anything heavy or awkward — a piano, a gun safe, that chest freezer in the basement. That tells us the crew and truck size. A two-bedroom usually means two movers and a 26-foot truck; a big house or a third-floor walk-up might want a third pair of hands.

On move day the crew rolls up with the truck already loaded for the job — blankets, runners, dollies, the works. Everything gets wrapped before it leaves the house. The heavy stuff loads first, packed in tight against the walls. Then it's all strapped down so nothing shifts on the drive over. At the far end we set things where you point and put the beds and tables back together. Most two-bedrooms wrap up in four to six hours. Want the packing off your plate too? What it costs

Price tracks home size, crew, and the time of year. Rough Calgary ranges:

• Studio — around $550

• 1-bedroom — $750 to $1,100

• 2-bedroom — $1,000 to $1,400

• 3-bedroom — $1,200 to $1,800

• 4-bedroom — $1,700 to $2,500

That price includes the crew, the truck, the equipment, and basic coverage. Anything extra — packing, a piano, storage between places — is quoted separately. Summer costs more than the off-season, and Stampede week in July is the priciest stretch of all. If your dates are flexible, October's usually the best value. A downtown condo runs a bit higher than a suburban house, mostly down to the elevator and parking.

The Calgary-specific stuff

Every part of the city has its own quirks, and that's usually what shapes the day.

Downtown, Beltline, and Mission are the fussy ones. Most towers want a freight elevator booked days ahead, a certificate of insurance, and often a permit to park at the curb — and during Stampede, closures can take a whole block out of play. Bridgeland will catch you out — a couple of those streets are steep enough to change where we spot the truck. The suburbs are the opposite: Tuscany, Cranston, and Mahogany have wide streets and real driveways, so the logistics are easy — there's just more house to carry. And Airdrie or Cochrane still count as local, but add half an hour each way to the day.

When to book

July and August are flat out, and the first and last few days of any month are a scramble — that's when the leases turn over. Move midweek or mid-month if you can, and it's far easier to get the date you want. Two or three weeks' notice is plenty off-season; give us four to six in summer. Moving in the dead of winter doesn't faze us — the crew just works a little differently at -25, and a Chinook can push that up 20 degrees by lunch. Our winter moving guide has the rest.
