Moving later in life isn't quite like any other move. You might be leaving a house you raised a family in, or helping a parent take that step, and there's more to it than boxes and a truck. Our crews get that. They take their time and they don't rush you, and they treat your things — and you — with the care you'd want. Whether you're downsizing to a condo or settling into a retirement residence, we handle the heavy part so you don't have to.
A senior move is usually more than just the lifting. Depending on what you need, we can take on:
Downsizing — working through the house room by room, at your pace, sorting what to keep from what to let go. We can run the donations to a local charity for you.
Packing and unpacking — the crew can box it all up and label it by room, then set it up at the other end so the new place feels lived-in from day one.
Furniture and heirlooms — taking apart beds and cabinets for the move and rebuilding them after, with extra care for the antiques and the pieces that can't be replaced.
Retirement community move-ins — a lot of Calgary residences have their own move-in rules, and we sort those out with the building ahead of time.
Rearranging what you've got — sometimes it's not a move at all, just shifting heavy furniture to make a room easier to get around. We do that too.
The most common senior move we do is a big suburban house — a Tuscany or a Cranston — down to a one- or two-bedroom condo somewhere more walkable. That usually means letting go of a good half of what you own, which is exactly why the sorting takes time and a little patience. If the new place is a downtown or Beltline condo, the building will have its own hoops: an elevator booking, insurance, a deposit, maybe a permit. We handle that side, and the condo checklist lays it all out. Anything that won't fit right away can go into storage until you've decided.
A senior move is priced like any local move — mostly home size and crew. A one-bedroom typically runs $550 to $1,100, a two-bedroom $1,000 to $1,400, and a three-bedroom $1,200 to $1,800. Extras — packing, downsizing help, a specialty piece — are quoted on top. Summer costs more than the rest of the year, and October tends to be the best value. A midweek day is usually easier to book, and a bit cheaper too.
Give yourself a bit more runway than a regular move — three or four weeks ahead is good, five or six in the summer. And start the sorting early, four to six weeks out if you can, since the decisions come easier with no clock on them. On the day, there's no rush. The crew works at whatever pace feels right and stops for breaks whenever they're needed. Family or a caregiver is welcome to be there — we'll work the timing around everyone. Calgary's noise rules let us start from 7 a.m., so a gentler mid-morning start is no problem.

Common questions about moving services for seniors in calgary in Calgary
It's priced the same as any local move, mostly on home size. A one-bedroom usually runs $550 to $1,100, a two-bedroom $1,000 to $1,400, and a three-bedroom $1,200 to $1,800. Packing and downsizing help are quoted on top. Summer's the pricier season, and October's the best value. A midweek day is often easier to book, and a little cheaper too. Our full Calgary pricing guide breaks it down by size and month.
Yes — and honestly it's the part that takes the most out of people. We go through the house room by room and help sort what to keep from what to pass on, working at your pace and going gently with the sentimental things. When you're ready to part with something, we can line up drop-offs with local Calgary charities so it goes somewhere good. Our downsizing guide walks through the whole process, and the Calgary decluttering guide says exactly where to take things.
Yes, all the time — into residences and assisted-living communities all over the city, places like Brentwood, Tuscany, and Signal Hill. A lot of these buildings have their own move-in rules: an elevator to book, a loading dock schedule, insurance paperwork, set hours you're allowed to move. We sort all of it out with the building beforehand and turn up with the documents and gear in hand, elevator pads included.
Three or four weeks ahead is usually enough, or five to six in the summer when things get busy. The bigger thing is to start sorting early — four to six weeks out — so the downsizing decisions aren't rushed. If the move's into a condo or a retirement residence, remember the building's freight elevator often needs booking about five business days ahead. Our best and worst times to move guide has the month-by-month picture.
Yes, and we take it seriously. We build in extra time so nothing feels rushed, and we work around walkers, wheelchairs, and medical equipment, keeping the pathways clear the whole way. If a family member or caregiver wants to be there, all the better — we'll fit the timing around them. We also make a point of getting the day-to-day things — grab bars, a shower bench, that sort of equipment — set up and usable at the new place before anything else.
Absolutely — a senior move doesn't always mean a new address. We'll shift the heavy stuff around your current place to make it easier to get around: widening a path for a walker, say, or moving a dresser somewhere it makes more sense. Same crews and the same care as a full move. Request a free quote and tell us what needs moving.
