Packing is where most of the breakage in a move happens — or where it doesn't. A glass wrapped properly rides fine; the same glass tossed loose in a box shows up in pieces. Our crews pack Calgary homes every week, and it shows in what actually arrives intact. You can hand us the whole house, or just the parts you'd rather not deal with.

How much you hand over is up to you

Three ways to do it:

  • Full pack — we do the whole house, room by room, wrapping each thing and labelling every box for where it's headed. A three-bedroom takes a crew of two about half a day.

  • Partial pack — the popular one. You handle your clothes and the easy stuff, and we take the kitchen (which breaks the most) and anything fragile. You pick what's ours.

  • Specialty — art, antiques, electronics, instruments. Each gets custom wrapping and the right box, plus a lot more care than a standard carton gets.

  • Unpacking too, if you want — we'll set things out at the new place and take all the empty boxes away, which saves you a day of living out of cardboard.

How we do it

It starts with a quick walk-through so we know what we're dealing with and can bring the right supplies. On the day, everything gets packed the way it should be — real double-walled boxes, not the flimsy kind, and paper instead of newsprint so nothing comes out inky. Glassware goes in dish barrels, and clothes stay on their hangers in wardrobe boxes. Every box gets labelled for its room, so on move day it lands where it belongs instead of in a heap by the door. Materials are part of the service — you're not buying boxes on the side.

Packing for the cold

Calgary winters change how we pack. At -30 the cold is hard on electronics and vinyl, and it'll freeze anything liquid, so those get thermal blankets and less time sitting in the truck. Chinooks are sneakier — a fast 20-degree swing brings condensation, which is rough on electronics and anything paper. If you're moving in the cold, the crew keeps an eye on the forecast and adjusts.

What it costs

Packing is usually quoted as an add-on to the move, and it tends to land somewhere around a quarter to 40% of the total, depending on how much you hand over and how fragile it is. Like the move itself, summer costs more and October's the best value. Get a free quote and we'll price the packing for your place and how much you want us to handle.

Home Packing Service in Calgary Questions Answered

Common questions about home packing service in calgary in Calgary

Definitely — partial packing is what most people here go for. You take care of your own clothes and the straightforward stuff, and we handle the kitchen (which breaks more than any other room) and anything fragile. You tell us which rooms or items are ours and we plan around it. It keeps the cost down while making sure the breakable things are packed right. And we bring the materials for our part, so there's no running around for boxes.

Two or three weeks ahead covers most moves. In summer, give it four to six, especially if you want a particular date — crews book up quick once the busy season hits. Moving out of a Beltline or downtown condo? Line the packing up with your elevator booking, which the building usually wants five-plus business days ahead. We normally pack the day before so the movers can load and go the moment the elevator slot opens. The best and worst times to move guide breaks demand down by month.

Not required, but on a condo move it more than pays for itself. Downtown and Beltline towers only give you a freight-elevator window of three or four hours, and you need it booked ahead, along with insurance and a deposit. If your boxes aren't done when that window opens, you're packing on the clock instead of loading — which risks going into overtime or blowing the slot entirely. Packing the day before means the crew just loads and goes. The condo moving rules guide has the full building checklist.

Good ones, and they're all included. Boxes are double-walled, not the flimsy single-ply kind, and we pack with clean paper rather than newspaper — newsprint rubs off on everything. Glassware goes in dish barrels with dividers. Clothes ride in wardrobe boxes right on their hangers, and mattresses get covers to keep the dirt and damp off. For the fragile specialty stuff — art, antiques, electronics — there's corner protectors, mirror boxes, anti-static wrap, and proper padding. None of it costs extra on top of the packing.

It does. At -20 or -30, sitting in an unheated truck is hard on electronics and vinyl records, and it'll freeze anything liquid — candles and wax go brittle too. So those items get wrapped in thermal blankets and spend as little time in the cold as we can manage. Chinooks are the other wrinkle: a 20-degree jump in an afternoon leaves condensation on electronics and paper, so the crew keeps an eye on the forecast and adjusts. The winter moving guide has more.

Packing tracks the size of your place and how fragile everything is, plus the time of year. As a rough sense of scale, a full Calgary move — packing and moving together — runs from about $550 for a studio up to $1,700-$2,500 for a four-bedroom, and packing on its own is usually a quarter to 40% of that. Summer runs higher, and Stampede week is the peak. October's the best value if you can time it. Get a free quote for your place, or check the full pricing guide.
