Two Small Men Staff Spotlight: Lyndsy Richard – Dispatch Manager, Calgary Branch

Careers

Lyndsy Richard has built a career based on adaptability, teamwork, and keeping crews and customers supported.

Calgary Dispatch Manager

When you ask Lyndsy Richard how she found her way to Two Small Men with Big Hearts, her answer is refreshingly honest: it wasn’t part of a plan, but rather a path that unfolded naturally.

Born and raised in Calgary, Lyndsy’s professional background looked very different before joining the team. She trained in nursing and then spent 15 years working in food and beverage management for the Calgary Flames. When the pandemic brought unexpected changes, Lyndsy was introduced to Two Small Men through a friend, and what started as a part-time role helping with confirmation calls quickly evolved into a career.

“I started out in the office two days a week just helping with confirmation calls,” she recalls. “Then I was offered the assistant dispatch manager position and did training in our Edmonton location. When the manager here went on leave, I stepped in as dispatch manager on a trial basis. After six months, they told me the position was mine.”

That organic progression is a reflection of Lyndsy’s adaptability and her ability to rise to new challenges. Today, as Dispatch Manager, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the Calgary branch, which runs eight trucks locally and frequently supports other branches.

Her responsibilities are wide-ranging: “Dispatching the crews, making sure we’re following hours of service and safety procedures, dealing with customers, and handling any issues that arise,” she says. “It’s about trying to get ahead of potential problems and setting everyone up for success.”

Safety, she notes, is at the core of everything her team does. “None of my drivers go out without proper training. They’re trained on hours of service, on the trucks, and we use electronic logging religiously. I’ll even check trucks myself, making sure pre-trips are done, fluids are topped up. I want to know things are right before they’re on the road.”

That hands-on approach goes beyond the office. Lyndsy has driven trucks, shuttled them to mechanics, and even joined crews on moves when staffing was tight. “The job’s not easy by any means. Seeing firsthand what the drivers deal with — access challenges, customers’ expectations, the physical work — it gives me a better appreciation and helps me be a stronger manager. It makes me ask better questions and do better confirmation calls to set the team up for success.”

Lyndsy is also proud of the ways her branch contributes to the community. One highlight for her has been supporting the Calgary Hitmen’s Teddy Bear Toss, where fans throw thousands of stuffed animals onto the ice for donation. “We provided trucks and services for three years in a row. Having worked for the Flames for so long, it was amazing to be back in that building, but in a different role, helping out in the community.”

When asked what stands out about the culture at Two Small Men, Lyndsy points to teamwork and communication. “Everyone’s team-oriented. The communication between sales, after-service, and dispatch has gotten so much better over the years. Even with big changes like taking on new branches, there’s been so much support across the company. It makes a difference.”

As for what the future holds, Lyndsy is happy where she is, but open to possibilities. “I really enjoy my position. I like dealing with my crews and our customers. If there’s ever a chance to move up, I wouldn’t be opposed, but I’m very comfortable where I’m at right now. I really do enjoy it.”

From stepping in during a challenging time to becoming a trusted leader in Calgary, Lyndsy Richard exemplifies what it means to grow with Two Small Men with Big Hearts, bringing dedication, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to her team every day.
