From cross-country DIY moves to helping shape company culture, Alie Tangney brings experience, connection, and a passion for community to her role at Two Small Men with Big Hearts.

When you ask Alie Tangney about her role at Two Small Men with Big Hearts, she’ll tell you it has been a journey of learning, growth, and connection. Based in the Okanagan, Alie supports the leadership team and brings people together across the company, helping to keep operations moving forward while strengthening Two Small Men’s culture.
Her journey with the company began just under two years ago when she moved from the coast to the Okanagan. “I was living up at Silver Star and I wasn’t about to drive the mountain road every day in the winter,” she recalls. “I applied for a role, and Addison reached out and said, ‘That’s not the right fit, but what about this one?’ It turned out to be exactly right.”
Before joining Two Small Men, Alie worked in higher education, managing the IT department at Douglas College and supporting the CIO. “My background has always been about supporting executives and managing departments. At Two Small Men, I still do some of that, but I also take on a wide variety of initiatives across the company. Every day looks different.”

Alie describes herself as being “in the middle of all the departments.” She helps connect people, manages communications like town halls and company-wide updates, organizes onboarding and offboarding, and supports HR and finance initiatives. She also oversees company benefits and works closely on IT and cybersecurity. “Sometimes things land with me just because no one knows where they should go,” she laughs. “I try to find efficiencies and make sure projects are with the right people. If it makes sense to keep it with me, I do.”
Her appreciation for the moving industry came first as a customer. Having relocated several times in her life — including a major move from Mississauga, Ontario to British Columbia — she knows firsthand the difference between DIY moves and working with professional movers in Western Canada.
“I’d never used a professional moving company before Two Small Men,” she says. “We’d rented U-Hauls and tried to pack everything ourselves. It was stressful, we lost things, and breakage happened because we didn’t wrap things properly. When we hired Two Small Men, I was blown away by the care and professionalism. They wrapped everything, laid out the red carpet, and treated every item like it mattered.”

Alie recalls a complicated recent move that involved three stops around Coldstream and Vernon, including helping her mother-in-law. “It was a hot Okanagan day and I thought they’d need two loads. But no, the movers were so efficient at packing the trucks that there was even room left over. It was impressive. Both my mother-in-law and her partner were amazed by how organized and careful the crews were.”
That hands-on experience as a customer gave Alie a unique perspective in her work today. She knows what families in British Columbia and across Western Canada are looking for when they choose a moving company: reliability, efficiency, and care. “Most people don’t think about hiring professional movers until they’ve tried moving themselves and realize how much work it is. Having the right moving team makes all the difference.”
Community involvement is also important to Alie. She serves on the company’s community committee, helping coordinate initiatives with organizations like Mamas for Mamas. “I’ve always grown up giving back to the community, so being part of a company that values that is meaningful to me. I’d love for us to do even more in that area.”
Reflecting on her time at Two Small Men, Alie emphasizes the company’s safety culture and professionalism. “Moving companies don’t always have the best reputation. People think of ‘two guys in a truck’ who lose things or don’t take care. But here, everything is regimented — from safety standards to wrapping procedures. It changes the experience for customers and shows how moving services in Western Canada can be done right.”
As she looks to the future, Alie sees her role continuing to evolve with the company. “My position ebbs and flows as the company grows, and I enjoy that. It keeps me learning and connected. I really believe what we’re doing in the moving industry — raising standards, improving safety, and giving back to communities — is transformational. It’s exciting to be part of that.”
From her early days navigating challenging moves as a customer to her current role connecting teams and driving initiatives, Alie Tangney represents the heart of what makes Two Small Men with Big Hearts more than just a moving company. She embodies the care, adaptability, and professionalism that customers across the Okanagan and Western Canada experience every day.
