Moving Stress

Everyone is a pro at moving until they're pregnant. Never fear. It's Two Small Men to the rescue! Discover Jade Vavra's moving journey from stress to satisfaction.

The Two Small Men moving truck that showed up for Jade Vavra's big day.

Social media maven Jade Vavra was getting ready to move into a new Calgary condo this past May. She had moved plenty of times before but she never needed a moving company to help her out. Coming from a family of eight, this Calgary native had always relied on assistance from her parents or siblings when it was time for a relocation. But during all those previous moves, Vavra had never been in the second trimester of a pregnancy.

“I'm actually six months pregnant right now,” she says. “So I knew off the bat, I would not be moving and lifting heavy stuff. I definitely needed some help and support. So we hired Two Small Men for a little bit of packing support and moving all the contents of the condo.”

Choosing Two Small Men with Big Hearts was a no-brainer for Vavra. She was intimately familiar with the moving company as she had spent the last year working her social media magic for them. The wide variety of packing and local moving services offered by the company made them an ideal solution for Vavra, whose bundle of joy-to-be was starting to complicate things for her.

It's the common medical consensus that while some exercise can be beneficial during pregnancy, heavy lifting can pose risks and should be avoided. Changes in a woman's body during pregnancy, like loosened ligaments and a shifting center of gravity, can make her more susceptible to injury when lifting heavy objects. On top of that, this type of strenuous activity may increase the risk of premature labor, low birth weight, and other complications.

“I just needed the physical support. I'm having some pretty bad back issues right now, so I would be on my feet for more than two hours and the idea of moving was very overwhelming. I'm used to just picking it all up and doing it myself, but, just physically, I'm restricted right now and that's where I needed the support to get everything out, and in a timely manner too.

Two Small Men sent three of their top-quality crew members to handle Vavra's move. It was certainly not the most complicated relocation they'd ever been involved with, but it was still handled efficiently and with care.

“The three movers were fantastic,” says Vavra. “They just were like, 'You direct us.’ We did a walkthrough of the house where I explained where everything was going. Some of our contents were going into storage, so they did a drop-off at a family friend's garage. And then they took the rest to the new place with no ifs, ands, or buts. They were great to deal with.”

On the day of the move, the Two Small Men crew arrived promptly at 10 a.m. and were done by 3 p.m. Vavra says she was floored by their efficiency and willingness to do whatever they could to help.

“They went above and beyond, honestly. One of the movers brought a toolkit. So he took a couple things off the wall for me as well. And that was more of like a last minute thing I forgot to do. And he's like, ‘No problem, I got it.’”

The whole experience ultimately converted Vavra into a full-blown proponent for using moving companies like Two Small men for any occasion that involves a change of address, be it local or long distance.

“I made a recommendation to a girlfriend who's moving from Calgary to Vancouver and she booked Two Small Men as well. We're not used to using movers, honestly. I have a family that supports me, but just given my personal circumstance right now, I thought this option would just be easiest and I will probably never again do a move without movers.”

And although there might have been just a bit of disappointment on the part of Vavra's family for not getting to help her out with the move, they couldn't help but be impressed with the quality of service from Two Small Men.

“Even this time, my family was asking, 'When do you need us to move?’ I'm like, ‘I actually don't.They're going to do it all.’ My parents were there and their move is probably coming up in the next two years as well. They'll be downsizing and my dad was like, ‘Oh, these guys are great! I want the exact same crew.’”

On top of always being available to help expecting mothers, Two Small Men also partners with many community groups as part of their commitment to giving back. Besides getting personal assistance herself, Vavra is well aware of Two Small Men's charitable engagement and says that one partner in particular really stands out to her.

“I honestly love Mamas for Mamas. It's mainly out of Kelowna. So I was thrilled to hear that Two Small Men had partnered with them.”

A specialized poverty relief agency, Mamas for Mamas acts as an all inclusive community for mothers and caregivers. It's one of the many groups that Two Small Men works with in the interest of aiding vulnerable residents across the country. In every region and city in which they operate, there's a wide variety of initiatives undertaken in the interest of helping those who help others.

“They had a donated move recently with a small dance studio in Calgary,” says Vavra. “So whenever they have downtime, they try and give back to those smaller organizations that maybe can't afford moving services. So I think that's pretty cool. Other than that, I love that they're also a part of the Teddy Bear Toss, too.”

Just as Two Small Men goes the extra mile when it comes to moves big and small, so too do they when it comes to community support.

“They just did whatever they could to make life very easy that day, and with no questions asked.”
