Cost of living

The cost of living in Edmonton is significantly more affordable than living in Toronto. In particular housing prices are much lower in Edmonton, getting you more bang for your buck. The price of a condo in Toronto is enough to buy you a house in Edmonton.

Gas prices and insurance also tend to be lower in Edmonton. Even public transit fares are generally more budget-friendly. Grocery costs are another huge expense to consider. Although grocery costs in both cities are comparable, you will notice the biggest difference when dining out. Edmonton has a growing food scene with delicious options that will not break the bank.

Overall, the cost of living in Edmonton is much more affordable. If you are looking for a city where you can afford your own home, drive a car, and still enjoy the lifestyle you want, Edmonton is the city for you.

Transportation

If you’ve lived in Toronto for a while, you are probably used to navigating the city with the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission). Edmonton’s public transit system is smaller, with buses and a Light Rail Transit (LRT) line that connects many parts of the city. While it is reliable, many people living in Edmonton rely on cars to get around.

While it may not be ideal for you to rely on driving, it’s not all bad. Edmonton has less congestion, more parking, and shorter commute times. Plus, with the Rockies a few hours away, owning a car opens up sight-seeing opportunities you can’t always get to from Toronto.
