About Your Edmonton to Kelowna Move

The Edmonton to Kelowna route spans approximately 890 km through Alberta's heartland and across the Rocky Mountains into BC's Okanagan Valley. This scenic 9-10 hour journey via Highway 2 and the Trans-Canada takes you from Alberta's capital through Red Deer, the national parks, Revelstoke, and Vernon before reaching wine country.

Moving from Edmonton to Kelowna trades Alberta's affordable housing market for the Okanagan lifestyle. Kelowna housing costs significantly more—with the gap even larger than Calgary due to Edmonton's lower prices. However, you'll gain access to over 2,000 hours of annual sunshine, Okanagan Lake, world-class wineries, and a growing tech sector attracting remote workers.

Two Small Men expertly navigates this scenic interprovincial route, handling the mountain passes and varied terrain between Alberta's prairies and BC's interior valleys. Our crews are experienced with this longer single-day corridor.

Your belongings will travel approximately 890 km from Edmonton, Alberta to Kelowna, British Columbia.

Leaving Edmonton

What to Know When Leaving Edmonton

Before leaving Edmonton:

Cancel your EPCOR utilities and set up accounts with FortisBC (electricity and gas) in Kelowna. BC uses different utility providers than Alberta.

Kelowna's housing market is significantly more expensive than Edmonton's. If selling your Edmonton home, you'll likely need additional funds to purchase comparable property in the Okanagan. Many relocators rent initially while exploring Kelowna's competitive housing market.

Winter driving through the mountain passes requires winter tires and can be challenging. Consider scheduling your move between May and October for optimal conditions.

Arriving in Kelowna

Your Guide to Kelowna

Welcome to Kelowna! Here's your Okanagan arrival guide:

Visit an ICBC location within 90 days to exchange your Alberta license and register your vehicle. BC uses public auto insurance through ICBC, which differs from Alberta's private market.

Register for BC MSP (Medical Services Plan) immediately. There's typically a waiting period, so keep your Alberta Health coverage active during the transition.

Kelowna is 1 hour behind Edmonton (Pacific vs Mountain Time). You'll experience a dramatic climate upgrade—hot, dry summers for lake activities and milder winters than Edmonton. Say goodbye to -30°C stretches! The Okanagan has 200+ wineries to explore.

A car is essential in Kelowna—transit is more limited than Edmonton. Popular areas include Lower Mission for lakeside living, downtown Kelowna for walkability, Glenmore for families, and West Kelowna for more affordable options.

Lourik (or Laurik), Kevin, Corbin, Brad and Mark came and rocked the move out of the park. Took great care of the items, as well as the floors/walls. We had some challenging items to move (eg. Elliptical) and they did a fantastic job with all of it. Based on the estimation of the move (time vs inventory), they came in well under as they were fantastically efficient. 10/10 would use again.
