About Your Edmonton to Calgary Move

The Edmonton to Calgary corridor is Alberta's busiest moving route, connecting the provincial capital with the province's largest city along the smooth QE2 Highway. At 300 km (about 3 hours), this straightforward route has no mountain passes or tolls—just open prairie highway.

Moving from Edmonton to Calgary means higher housing costs but also higher average incomes. Calgary's proximity to the Rocky Mountains (just an hour to Banff) is a major draw, along with its ranking as the world's seventh most livable city. The city has a strong tech sector, energy industry presence, and milder winters thanks to periodic chinook winds.

Two Small Men runs this Alberta corridor frequently, with experienced crews who can complete most moves in a single day. We understand the logistics of both cities' diverse neighborhoods and building requirements.

Your belongings will travel approximately 300 km from Edmonton, Alberta to Calgary, Alberta.

Leaving Edmonton

What to Know When Leaving Edmonton

Before leaving Edmonton:

Cancel your EPCOR utilities and set up service with ENMAX (electricity) and ATCO or Direct Energy (natural gas) in Calgary. Each city uses different utility providers.

Since you're staying within Alberta, no changes to your license, registration, or health coverage are needed—just update your address at any registry agent.

Calgary's housing market is more expensive, so budget accordingly. If renting, start your search early as competition for quality rentals is higher than in Edmonton.

Arriving in Calgary

Your Guide to Calgary

Welcome to Calgary! Here's your arrival guide:

Update your address at any Alberta registry agent within 14 days. Your Alberta license, registration, and health coverage remain valid.

Calgary's CTrain LRT system is more extensive than Edmonton's, with two lines serving major corridors. Downtown is free to ride. The city is still car-oriented, but transit-accessible living is more feasible than in Edmonton.

Enjoy the chinooks! Calgary's winters are punctuated by warm chinook winds that can raise temperatures dramatically in hours—a welcome change from Edmonton's sustained cold. The Rocky Mountains are just an hour away for skiing, hiking, and weekend getaways.

Popular neighborhoods include Kensington and Inglewood for urban village vibes, Beltline for downtown living, Marda Loop for families, and communities like Mahogany and Auburn Bay in the southeast for newer suburban homes with lake access.

Lourik (or Laurik), Kevin, Corbin, Brad and Mark came and rocked the move out of the park. Took great care of the items, as well as the floors/walls. We had some challenging items to move (eg. Elliptical) and they did a fantastic job with all of it. Based on the estimation of the move (time vs inventory), they came in well under as they were fantastically efficient. 10/10 would use again.
