Two Small Men's remote work policy has been a dream for Toronto student Audrey Li, who continues to pursue her university degree while working as a junior developer for the company.

When contacted for this piece, Audrey Li wasn’t in an office or a cubicle—she was checking in while on a trip to San Francisco, where she was continuing to work remotely in her role as a junior developer at Two Small Men with Big Hearts. The circumstances of the interview itself perfectly demonstrates the remote-first culture the Canadian moving company embraces in regards to much of its support staff. This arrangement offers team members like Audrey the ability to grow their careers, travel, or, in her case, pursue higher education.

“Basically, I can work wherever I want,” Audrey says. “I really like the remote environment, just because of the flexibility that it gives me. And I have a very good manager. Every time I mentioned that I might be away, he's very understanding and very excited for me, like when I first mentioned going to San Francisco.”

Originally from Markham, Ontario, and still based in the Greater Toronto Area, Audrey is coming up in the tech and business worlds. She’s heading into her fourth year of a dual degree in computer science and business at Western University and the Ivey Business School, with plans to graduate in 2027. On top of that, Audrey already has over a year of professional experience under her belt with Two Small Men.

“I joined them last summer in June, so it's been a little bit over a year now,” she says. “I worked full-time with them last summer and then part-time over the school year. And now I’m full-time again for the summer.”

As a junior developer, Audrey was instrumental in building the company’s new website—an important piece of a larger rebranding effort that modernized the company’s digital face. It’s just one example of the way Two Small Men with Big Hearts puts real trust in its people and encourages them to grow.

“Since the development team is small, I get to do both design and development, as well as managing the lifecycle of certain products,” Audrey explains. “I’ve done a lot of graphic design work and I'm also very interested in digital product work, so in that sense, yes, I have been able to apply that to Two Small Men.”

That flexibility extends beyond skill-building. At Two Small Men with Big Hearts, team members are encouraged to shape their own careers, take initiative, and explore new paths. As the company notes on its careers page, there's “plenty of room to grow.” They offer paid training, support for professional development, and a variety of career paths—from movers and drivers to IT, logistics, and marketing roles.

“They respected my time and my skills and my effort,” Audrey says. “They gave a lot of recognition for the work that I did.”

That kind of recognition is part of the company’s wider culture. With a comprehensive benefits package that includes competitive wages, health and wellness programs, flexible scheduling, and even quarterly rewards and referral bonuses, Two Small Men goes beyond standard workplace perks. It’s a company that actively works to create a collaborative and inclusive environment—something Audrey felt from day one.

“When I was onboarding, it was very welcoming. They're a fully remote company. I think I was also their first co-op student, so it was like I was learning as well as they were learning how to navigate the remote environment. The team was very warm.”

Before applying, Audrey wasn’t overly familiar with the company. “I didn’t really know about them. I know that they're really big in Alberta and BC and everything, but I found out about them through Indeed,” she says. “Just reading up about them, I thought that the name of the company was really cute and I really liked their values.”

Those values, rooted in care and community, continue to be a major draw for Audrey. “That’s also one of the things that I found very admirable about the company when I was first reading about them,” she says. “They do a lot of charity work and they give back a lot to the communities.”

That heart-led mission echoes in the company’s culture—where coworkers feel like teammates, and everyone is encouraged to show up as their full selves. For Audrey, that means bringing her creativity to work. In addition to coding and design, she runs a small handmade jewelry business and loves crafting, painting, and building things with her hands. It’s all part of the broader, balanced life she’s been able to build while working at Two Small Men.

“I haven’t moved much,” she laughs, noting that she’s lived in the same house in Markham her whole life. “But I’ve grown a lot.”

And that’s exactly the kind of story Two Small Men with Big Hearts loves to hear. Whether you're moving homes or moving forward in your career, it’s a company built on compassion, trust, and the belief that everyone deserves a chance to grow—wherever they are.
