5 Important Factors that will Impact The Cost of Your Move

Reduce Moving Costs || Two Small Men

The number one question we get from people looking to move is “How much do movers cost?” While we would love to be able to have an exact answer for everyone, the truth is there’s no one cost of moving. There are a variety of factors that can affect the final cost of your move that are important to know about if you want to accurately predict how much a moving company is going to cost.

These 5 Things Affect How Much It Costs to Hire a Moving Company

If you’re wondering how much a moving company costs, you’re not likely to get a simple answer. That’s because there are many different factors affecting the cost of most moves. Here are 5 of the most important ones to know about:

  1. The Move Distance and/or Time

Depending on whether you’re moving long distance or locally, the distance you’re moving or the time your move takes will have the most impact on the final cost of your move.

  1. How Much Stuff You Have

This is particularly relevant when it comes to local move as they are typically charged by time. It’s simple: the more stuff you have to move, the long it will take your movers, and the more your final moving cost will be. That’s why we always encourage people to declutter before moving – that way your movers won’t be spending time moving things you don’t even need.

  1. When You’re Moving

One of the biggest impacts on how much a moving company costs is the time you book them at. Mover’s rates changed based on how busy they are, so if you move during a busier time of month, your rates are likely to be higher. When you choose us to move you, you can save up to $30 per hour by moving between the 4th and the 24th of the month. Seasons can also have an impact as certain times of year are much busier than others.

  1. The Accuracy of Your Inventory

Getting a free moving estimate is the best way to determine what your move is going to cost. It’s important to us, and to you, to make sure your estimate is as accurate as possible to your final moving cost. But, without an accurate inventory of your things, this can’t happen.

Some people believe that under-representing the size of their inventory will mean a lower estimate and a lower cost. But, an estimate is just an estimate, and if you end up having more things than initially thought, your move can take longer than estimated and your cost will go up.

  1. Extra Services

Whether or not you have additional moving services is a big factor in determining how much a moving company costs. Things like packing and unpacking services, vehicle transport, and more will add to the cost of your move. Plus, things like additional movers or another truck can also have added costs.

Like we said above, getting a free moving estimate is the best way to determine how much your move will cost. Make sure to indicate whether any of these factors apply when getting your estimate in order to ensure it’s accurate.
