From truck driver to driving sales: Two Small Men staff spotlight on Warren Angus

Long Distance Moving

How Warren Angus built a career based on hard work, empathy, and a genuine drive to make moving easier for people across Canada.

Two Small Men Sales Director Warren Angus

Warren Angus never expected that a job interview would turn into a same-day shift, but that’s exactly how his career with Two Small Men with Big Hearts began. Now, seven years later, he’s the company’s Director of Sales, and his story is a testament to growth through hard work, heart, and a genuine desire to help others.

Warren spent the first eleven years of his life in England before his family made the move to Okotoks, Alberta, just south of Calgary. He completed his teen years there, moved away for a time, and eventually returned to start a family of his own. It was during that period of transition that he found Two Small Men, or more accurately, they found him.

“I just needed a job at the time, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn a few things for my next move,” he recalls. “I remember showing up for an interview and being put to work that day and never looking back.”

Warren started at the ground level, working as a mover despite not having much more experience than just a few casual gigs involving beer, pizza, and pickup trucks. But what began as a way to earn a pay check soon became something more.

“I quickly fell in love with the job of moving. Meeting different people every day and being a significant part of somebody's journey is such a huge piece of somebody's life that it felt special,” he says. “I also loved working with a buddy, and getting paid to do cardio was awesome, so I stuck it out.”

True to his nature, Warren threw himself into the role. “I just took as many jobs as I could. I loved it. The first month I worked for Two Small Men, I paid my rent in tips. I was stoked.”

Just a few months in, Warren’s enthusiasm and work ethic opened the door to new opportunities. When the Calgary branch needed a dispatch manager, he stepped up.

“I’m always eager to learn, so I took it,” he says. “I sort of regretted trading the boots-on-the-ground work for an office position. But it was nice to spend more time interacting with customers and getting to know their stories.”

As dispatch manager, Warren built a strong connection with his crew. “Movers aren’t always highly valued when it comes to the workforce. But I had a really good mutual respect with my crew when I was dispatching in Calgary.”

Over the years, Warren has worn many hats. From dispatch manager, he shifted into long-distance sales, focusing on cross-country moves. As the company’s long-haul business grew, he began coordinating logistics and scheduling, eventually managing a specialized sales team. That growth culminated in his current role as Director of Sales.

“My favorite part of the culture here, especially on the sales team, is the performance-driven atmosphere. Everyone celebrates strong performance. The team boosts each other up. It’s really rewarding to see.”

Warren’s job today may look different from the early days, but the mission remains the same: help people during one of the most stressful times in their lives.

“I really do care about helping people have a stress-free move. It sounds so cliché, but we’re not just moving people’s things. We’re often moving their history. People live in their homes for 20, 30 years. Moving is daunting. It feels good to help them in that time of need, and give them the information they need to feel at ease.”

One move in particular stands out in Warren’s memory, not because of the destination, but the weather.

“It started as a beautiful day,” he recalls. “We loaded up the truck and drove 40 minutes to the destination. Then the skies opened up. Torrential rain. We had to get creative, draping moving blankets from the roof of the truck to the house to give ourselves some shelter, and keeping a close eye on the truck roof to make sure it wasn’t leaking. It was a big, grand, rainy experience.”

Though he’s no longer on the frontlines, Warren’s impact now extends far beyond the trucks. His leadership touches everything from team dynamics to customer experience. He’s also extremely proud of the company’s ever-growing community involvement.

“I love reading the stories about our community involvement,” he says. “The one that stands out most to me is the Teddy Bear Toss, done in partnership with the Calgary Hitmen. My son was in the hospital when he was born, and they gave teddy bears to the kids on Valentine’s Day. I know that bear came from one of those events. So it’s really special to me, being on both the receiving and giving end.”

Looking ahead, Warren sees enormous potential for growth, not just in sales, but in shaping a smoother, more customer-friendly experience.

“I have a lot of ideas for where we can take the sales team. I want to help develop the tools we use and provide input on systems. The goal is to create a seamless booking experience for customers, with as little friction as possible.”

For Warren, leadership isn't just about targets and numbers. It’s about people, whether that’s the customer, the crew, or the team beside him every day.

“I think the reason I’ve stuck around this long is because I believe in what we do,” he says. “And I still get that same feeling I had on day one, that what we’re doing matters.”
