When people think about moving, they often imagine a simple point A to point B situation. One home, one destination, everything unloaded in a single day. But as Sajan Preet explains, real life is rarely that straightforward. Storage moves are a huge part of the job, especially in the Lower Mainland, where timing, housing availability, and traffic all shape how a move unfolds.

Sajan has handled just about every type of move there is. As he puts it himself, “Yeah, like, mostly I’ve done all kinds of jobs.” One of the most common scenarios he sees involves customers who need a temporary solution, somewhere safe for their belongings while they figure out their next step. That is exactly the case with a recent job he was working on in Langley.

Talking about the move, Sajan explains that he was currently on a job there and notes that Langley is not far from Vancouver, but distance in the Lower Mainland is always relative. “With traffic, it’s an hour away, I guess,” he says. Anyone familiar with the region knows that an hour can quickly turn into much more, which is why planning and efficiency matter so much on storage jobs.

This particular move involved a full household. “It’s a three bedroom house,” Sajan explains, which immediately changes how the move needs to be approached. Storage is not just about loading items into a truck and dropping them off. Every decision affects how safely and efficiently those belongings can be stored, sometimes for months at a time.

When asked whether the items were going into a container or a traditional storage unit, Sajan is clear. “No, storage facility.” That distinction matters. A storage facility requires careful planning around layout, stacking, and access, especially when the customer may need to retrieve items later.

According to Sajan, the biggest difference between a standard residential move and a storage move is planning ahead. “The storage move, like we have to figure, like we have to know how big of a storage customer everything can fit in there,” he explains. Choosing the right unit size is critical. Too small, and items are at risk of damage. Too large, and the customer is paying for space they do not need. As Sajan puts it, the goal is making sure “all the stuff can fit in there.”

In this case, the client was especially concerned about protecting their furniture. Sajan explains that the customer had clear instructions. “Yeah, like for some of these furniture things, he wants us to throw pads under and then we put it in the storage so that they don’t get damaged.” Storage means time, and time introduces new risks. Dust, shifting, and pressure from stacked items can all cause problems if things are not packed properly.

Sajan understands why customers are cautious when their belongings are going into storage for longer periods. “Yeah, so that’s because it’s taking for a longer time,” he says, explaining why extra padding and care were required on this job. Furniture that might be fine for a short move across town needs additional protection when it will be sitting untouched for weeks or months.

The reason behind the storage move is one Sajan sees often in and around Vancouver. Housing transitions do not always line up perfectly. “Yeah, because he sold his place here, and he hasn’t gotten another place to live there,” Sajan explains. In competitive markets like Vancouver and Langley, it is common for people to sell before they secure their next home. Storage becomes the bridge between those two moments.

Sajan notes that the plan is temporary. “So he might wait for some time, and once he gets like a nice day, he will go there from storage.” That future move is always part of the equation, which is why items need to be stored in a way that makes unloading and reloading straightforward later on.

What stands out in Sajan’s approach is that storage is never treated as an afterthought. It is part of the move itself. From assessing the size of the storage unit to padding furniture underneath, every step is taken with the understanding that someone will eventually come back for these items.

In busy areas like Langley and Vancouver, where traffic, housing availability, and timing all play a role, storage moves require flexibility and experience. Sajan’s ability to adapt to these situations reflects the broader approach at Two Small Men With Big Hearts. The job is not just about moving things out of a house. It is about making sure customers feel confident that their belongings are safe, even when life does not follow a neat timeline.

For Sajan, storage moves are simply another way to help people through a transition. Whether it is a long distance relocation, a solo move, or placing an entire household into storage, the focus remains the same. Care, planning, and doing the job properly, no matter how long the belongings need to wait before their next home is ready.
