Moving a pool table isn’t your average day on the job — and when it weighs 900 kilograms and the customer refuses to take it apart, things get intense. Deepak Verma from Two Small Men with Big Hearts’ Kamloops branch recently shared one of the most challenging moves of his career in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, a charming city nestled on the shores of Shuswap Lake, about an hour and a half north of Kamloops.
Deepak explains how it all started: “I was already in Salmon Arm finishing another shift when my dispatcher called. There was a pool table move. They had already sent three guys, but the pool table — it was in Salmon Arm — and they couldn’t lift it. How could three guys lift 900 kilograms?”

The customer made their expectations clear: “I don’t want to take that apart. I want that thing as it is out of my home,” Deepak recalls. This wasn’t a standard disassembly-and-move scenario. The table was massive, and the tight spaces of the home only added to the challenge. “Three feet or two feet doors… just getting it out of the room was so hard,” Deepak says.
Realizing the difficulty, Deepak and his team brought in more help, making a total of five movers on-site. “Seriously, believe me. Maintaining the balance, lifting it through all the doorways, it was so hard. It took around six hours to take that pool table out of the home and place it in the garage,” he says.
The challenge didn’t end there. Loading the table onto the truck required ingenuity. “The main part was standing it on the dolly. It was cracking down, and the customer said, ‘I don’t care if the side got cracked. I want this pool table out.’ So we did it anyhow,” Deepak explains. The team used four-wheel dollies and coordinated carefully: “We had one person maintaining balance in the middle, and two guys on each corner. We moved inch by inch so it wouldn’t fall on anybody.”
Even getting it into the truck was a test of patience. “We couldn’t use ramps because we couldn’t lift the table that high. So we laid four blankets on the edge of the truck and lifted it from the bottom — all five of us — and pushed it in. That took around four hours. Pool table… so heavy,” Deepak laughs.
Salmon Arm may be a picturesque town on Shuswap Lake, with a population of just over 18,000, but that doesn’t make moving large furniture easy. Many homes in the area are older or multi-level, with narrow hallways and staircases that complicate any move. “The drop-off was only five or ten kilometers away, but it was going into the garage, and the house had tight spaces everywhere. Every inch mattered,” Deepak says.
Safety was a priority throughout the move. Deepak emphasizes the care his team took: “We were wearing gloves, moving inch by inch, communicating constantly. It’s the only safe way to deal with a pool table this size. If it falls… someone could get seriously hurt.” He also reflected on past experience with pool tables: “I did a pool table move two years before, but we took it apart in three pieces. That was so easy. This time, if the customer doesn’t allow disassembly, don’t take the job. It’s risky for our lives, seriously.”
This pool table move stood out even among Deepak’s other challenging jobs. “That’s the hardest, heaviest move I have ever done in two years,” he says. He’s handled pianos, long-distance moves, and condo shifts, but nothing compared to the combination of weight, space constraints, and strict customer requirements in Salmon Arm.
The teamwork involved also left a mark. Deepak recalls how every team member had to coordinate perfectly: “One person had to maintain balance in the middle, two guys at each corner, inch by inch. If anyone moved too fast or lost grip, it could have ended badly.” The physical toll was intense, but Deepak says the satisfaction of completing the move safely made it all worth it.
“Even though it took hours, and it was exhausting, we managed to get it out, onto the truck, and delivered safely. The customer was happy, and we were safe. That’s what matters most,” Deepak concludes.

For anyone unfamiliar with the Shuswap region, Salmon Arm may look serene from the outside, but as Deepak’s story shows, even a small town in British Columbia can present logistical challenges for movers — especially when a 900 kg pool table refuses to fit into your usual routine.
In the end, this move is a reminder of the skill, patience, and sheer determination that Two Small Men with Big Hearts brings to every job — from Kamloops to Salmon Arm and beyond. And as Deepak notes, “Every move is unique. Every move has its challenge. But when you finish safely, it’s worth it.”
