Commercial moves don’t always mean desks, filing cabinets, and a couple of office plants. Sometimes they mean highly sensitive scientific equipment, anxious clients, and zero room for mistakes. Calvin Toews knows that kind of move well.
One of the most memorable commercial jobs Calvin worked on in Saskatoon involved relocating a science lab, the kind of place where everything is expensive, delicate, and absolutely not supposed to be dropped.
“We moved equipment for a science company,” Calvin said. “They had DNA machines and other lab equipment that was really sensitive.”

This wasn’t a long-distance haul across provinces or highways. It was a local move, but the stakes felt higher than usual. The equipment was being moved from a university lab to another lab location near Fletcher Road, close to the Two Small Men with Big Hearts shop in Saskatoon. The distance was short, but the care required was extreme.
“It was basically from one lab to another,” Calvin explained. “But it was the kind of stuff where you really don’t want anything to go wrong.”
Lab moves are a different world from residential jobs. Instead of couches and beds, the team was handling heavy refrigerators, specialized washers, and machines designed to work in sterile environments. Some of the items weighed hundreds of pounds and couldn’t be bumped, scratched, or jostled.
“There were fridges that were around 350 pounds,” Calvin said. “And other machines like a beaker washer. Everything had to stay clean and intact.”
What stands out in Calvin’s telling is how calm the move actually felt, despite the delicate nature of the equipment. That calm didn’t come from luck. It came from preparation, communication, and sticking to the basics.
“We just blanket wrapped everything,” Calvin said. “Right in front of the client.”
That small detail mattered. Seeing the equipment carefully wrapped and protected helped reassure the people who relied on those machines for their work. When clients are watching their livelihood being moved, trust is everything.
“She was stressed at first,” Calvin said. “But once she saw everything wrapped properly, she was fine with it. She said she was happy just going with the basic cover.”
Every piece was padded, secured, and placed on dollies. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was carried casually.
“Everything was moved man-level to man-level,” Calvin said. “Nothing was just going loose.”
That approach is especially important in Saskatoon, where commercial spaces can vary widely. University labs, industrial buildings, and research facilities often have tight hallways, controlled access points, and strict requirements around cleanliness and handling. A mover who stays calm and methodical makes a huge difference.
At the other end of the move, the payoff was clear.
“We got it there, unwrapped it, and there were no scratches or damage,” Calvin said. “We put everything back together, and it was good.”
For Calvin, this kind of job highlights why not every mover is suited to commercial work. Residential moves test strength and endurance. Commercial and lab moves test patience and attention to detail.
“You can’t rush stuff like that,” he said. “You just take your time and do it right.”
That steady mindset is something Calvin carries into every job. When asked if he tends to get stressed on complex moves, his answer was simple.

“Not really,” he said. “Staying calm just makes everything easier.”
In a commercial environment, that calm spreads. Clients relax. Crews work more efficiently. Mistakes are avoided. It’s one of the quiet skills that separates experienced movers from everyone else.
Saskatoon continues to grow as a hub for research, education, and specialized industries, especially around the university and industrial areas like Fletcher Road. Moves like this one are becoming more common, and they require movers who understand that not everything can be treated like a box of books.
For Two Small Men with Big Hearts, commercial moves aren’t just about getting from point A to point B. They’re about understanding what’s being moved, why it matters, and how much trust is involved.
As Calvin put it, “You just do what you know works. Wrap it, protect it, and move it carefully.”
Sometimes, that’s all it takes to turn a high-stress lab relocation into just another smooth day on the job.
