About Delta, BC
DELTA is a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia and part of Greater Vancouver. As of 2021, Delta is home to approximately 108 455 people in 3 communities: North Delta, Ladner, and Tsawwassen. Delta is known for its relatively dry, sunny climate compared to other parts of Greater Vancouver and boasts some of the mildest winters in Canada with its warm-summer Mediterranean climate, receiving nearly 40% less precipitation than downtown Vancouver!
And fun fact, Delta is the principle filming location for TV series Resident Alien!
What to do when you move to Delta
If you’re considering moving to Delta, we can’t recommend it enough! Besides it’s wonderful climate, Delta features a network of extensive biking trails and paths suitable for all levels of cyclist. It’s also well known as an excellent area for bird watching—anyone interested in seeing a variety of birds can do so at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, in Boundary Bay Regional Park, and even at the Delta Nature Reserve at Burns Park.
Delta also has a vibrant local community, with markets operating nearly every weekend. You’ll find local artisans, farmers, bakers, jewelry-makers and other gifts, and even live entertainment at the various markets that run throughout Delta. Here are just a few of these markets you can (and should!) look into:

If all that wasn’t enough, Delta boasts an incredible selection of local restaurants, cafes, delis, breweries, wineries, and pubs. If you’re looking for an evening out, you can’t go wrong with a local eatery, drinks, and a visit to one of the many marinas in the area. If you’re a family new to the area after your move, you can also enjoy attractions such as Big Splash Waterpark in Tsawwassen, Annieville Lions Park in North Delta, or Kinsmen Water Play Park in Ladner.

Volunteering
Delta is an extremely community-oriented city, and the city’s official website goes into great detail on volunteer opportunities that are available within the city. You can volunteer as a Snow Angel if you’re 18 or older (or 13-17 with adult supervision) to help those who can’t shovel snow get their walkways cleared, at the KinVillage Community Centre, Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre, McKee Seniors Recreation Centre, Delta Community Animal Shelter, at various parks in the city, and at so many more locations. There’s something for everyone when it comes to volunteering in Delta!
Item Donation
If you’re moving locally or downsizing after your move to Delta, there are certainly options to donate your items in the city. The Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society Thrift Shop is a great option and accepts donations from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. SOS Children’s Village is just 25 minutes away in Richmond, and accepts a wide variety of items for their thrift shop during store hours.
