Meet Kristin S., a Calgary Move Coordinator whose years of customer service experience help turn stressful moving questions into confident, well-planned moves.

When most people call a moving company, they're not usually having the most relaxing day of their lives.
Maybe they're preparing for a major life change. Maybe they're trying to coordinate a move on a tight timeline. Maybe they're staring at a house full of furniture and wondering where to begin.
That's where Kristin S., one of Two Small Men with Big Hearts' Calgary-based Move Coordinators, comes in.
For the past two years, Kristin has been one of the friendly voices helping customers turn a stressful situation into a manageable move. While she may not be the person lifting boxes on moving day, she's often the first person customers speak to—and the one helping them make sense of everything that comes before the truck arrives.

"I book moves and take calls," Kristin says with characteristic modesty. "I help people plan their moves, help them figure it out, send them quotes, and book them in."
It's a simple description for a role that requires a surprising amount of knowledge, patience, and problem-solving.
Unlike many people in the industry, Kristin didn't come from a moving background. Before joining Two Small Men with Big Hearts, she spent years working in coffee shops, starting as a barista before moving into management roles at several locations.
At first glance, coffee and moving might seem like completely different worlds. But Kristin quickly discovered that many of the skills she'd developed over years in customer service translated perfectly.
"The customer service piece—that's the big thing," she says. "I've been doing it my whole life."
Years of helping customers, solving problems, and managing expectations gave her a strong foundation that continues to serve her well today.
"Some people who haven't had jobs in customer service can kind of struggle with that. For me, that was never a struggle because I've been doing it my whole life."
Born and raised in Calgary, Kristin attended the University of Calgary, where she took a path that's a little different from what most people expect from someone working in the moving industry.

She majored in Greek and Roman Studies and minored in German.
While those subjects might not seem directly related to moving, they occasionally create memorable moments with customers.
Recently, Kristin noticed a customer with a distinctly German surname and decided to pronounce it properly.
"He was like, 'Wow, you just said that perfectly,'" she recalls. The conversation quickly turned into a discussion about language, culture, and the meaning behind the customer's family name.
Those moments help transform what could be a routine transaction into something more personal.
"If they're German or Greek or something, I try to put that in if I can, because then it's a little more personal and a little less just, 'All right, so when do you want to move?'"
One reason Kristin relates so well to customers is that she's been in their shoes.
Over the years, she's moved between apartments and houses throughout Calgary and has experienced both sides of the moving process. Like many people, her earlier moves involved rental trucks, family members, and favours from friends.
That changed after she joined Two Small Men with Big Hearts.
"Since working here, I have gotten the movers to come help me and that's been really nice because my family doesn't have to do it."
Having experienced the difference firsthand, she's become a believer in professional moving services.
"It's a lot to do by yourself and with family," she says. "In an ideal world, 100 percent movers opposed to doing it yourself."
Ask Kristin what question she hears most often and the answer comes immediately.
"How much do you charge?"
It's a perfectly reasonable question, but not one with a simple answer.
Drawing on her coffee shop background, Kristin often uses an analogy customers can understand.
"That's kind of like asking what a coffee costs. Are you getting a small drip coffee or are you getting a venti frappuccino?" she says. "The details matter."
Every move is different. The size of the home, the distance involved, packing requirements, access issues, and countless other factors all play a role. Her job is to walk customers through those details and help them understand exactly what they need.
At the end of the day, Kristin's goal isn't just to book moves.
Of course, the ideal scenario is that someone reviews the quote and books immediately. But whether a customer books on the spot or takes time to consider their options, she wants every conversation to leave them feeling informed and reassured.

"I want people to feel like they've had a proper and thorough and professional experience," she says.
More than anything, she wants customers to hang up the phone feeling confident.
"Opposed to getting off and feeling uneasy."
It's a simple philosophy, but one that reflects what Two Small Men with Big Hearts is all about: helping people navigate one of life's biggest transitions with a little less stress and a lot more support.
For Calgary customers planning their next move, Kristin is often the first step toward making that happen.
