When customers call Two Small Men with Big Hearts looking for help with one of life's most stressful experiences, there's a good chance they'll hear a calm, steady voice on the other end of the line. In Regina, that voice often belongs to Dan Mason.

Dan's path to the moving industry wasn't a conventional one. Originally from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, he spent more than a decade working in radio, building a career that took him across Western Canada. After attending radio school in Winnipeg, he worked in Thompson, Manitoba, before spending nearly ten years in Prince Albert as an on-air personality and lead producer.

"It was kind of all over the place," Dan says of his radio career. He worked everything from midday shifts to weekend programming, eventually moving into production work where he created commercials and managed audio content for multiple stations.

While radio and moving might seem worlds apart, Dan sees a direct connection between the two.

"I think it's mostly just my calm demeanour," he explains. "The way we're talking now is the way I talk to everybody on the phone."

Years of live broadcasting taught him how to think quickly, adapt to changing conversations, and keep people comfortable. "I'm pretty good on my feet to kind of pivot based on what other people have to say," he says. "That's probably from the decade in radio."

Today, Dan brings those same skills to his role as a move coordinator with Two Small Men. While some people focus primarily on sales numbers, Dan takes a different approach.

"I care more about helping people out," he says. "I'm not pushing you. I'm not hoping to gouge you or anything. I just want to help these people because moving sucks."

That perspective comes from personal experience.

Before joining Two Small Men, Dan had hired moving companies for two of his own moves, and neither experience left him impressed. One move that should have been a straightforward four-hour relocation turned into a frustrating ordeal involving delays, understaffing, and unexpected costs.

"They showed up with two people. They needed three. They didn't bring the right trucks. They didn't have the right stuff," he recalls. "It took like an extra five or six hours to load us."

What began as a quoted price of roughly $1,600 to $1,800 eventually ballooned to nearly $3,000.

"It was wild," Dan says.

The experience was so frustrating that he swore he would never hire a moving company again. Now that he's on the industry side, those experiences motivate him to make sure customers don't go through the same thing.

"Every day I have people ask me, 'Are you sure? Is this what it is?'" he says. "And I'm like, 'Yeah, I'm being straight with you. This is what it's going to be.'"

That commitment to transparency is one of the things he appreciates most about Two Small Men. Whether discussing local moves or long-distance relocations with guaranteed pricing, Dan values being able to provide customers with clear information and honest expectations.

"I can always just tell them to go look at our reviews," he says confidently.

For Dan, success isn't necessarily about closing the most bookings. It's about making a difficult process a little easier.

"If we can even make it 10 percent better, then I think that's a win."

When asked what advice he would give people planning a move, his answer is simple: do your homework.

"Do your research," he says. "Check the reviews. Talk to people. Make sure you know what you're actually getting into. Make sure there are no hidden fees. Make sure you know the cost going into it."

He also stresses the importance of preparation. Having belongings packed, organized, and ready to go can make moving day significantly smoother for everyone involved.

As he continues building his career with Two Small Men, Dan remains focused on what he enjoys most: talking with people, solving problems, and helping customers navigate a stressful transition.

His radio days may be behind him, but the communication skills, quick thinking, and steady demeanor that made him successful on the air continue to serve him well. Only now, instead of helping listeners through their day, he's helping customers through their move.
