For Paul K., every move starts the same way: by listening.

As a Move Consultant with Two Small Men with Big Hearts in Toronto, Paul spends his days helping customers plan and prepare for one of life's biggest transitions. While every move is different, his approach remains remarkably simple.

"No strategy," Paul says with a laugh. "Just active listening."

It may sound straightforward, but after years in sales and the moving industry, Paul has learned that understanding a customer's concerns is often the most important part of the job.

"We organize and consult on moving preparations," he explains. "But mostly I like hearing what other people are saying. Different stories, different situations, different walks of life."

Originally from Toronto, Paul joined Two Small Men after working for another major moving company in a similar role. The transition was a natural one. He already understood the logistics of moving, the questions customers ask, and the challenges that come with helping people coordinate major life changes.

What makes Paul particularly unique is his bilingual background.

Despite growing up in Toronto, Paul attended French-language schools from kindergarten through college. His parents, who emigrated from Europe and don't speak French themselves, were determined that their children would learn Canada's second language.

"My parents were a little bit adamant that I spoke French," he says.

Today, Paul is fully bilingual in English and French, a skill that allows him to assist customers across a wide range of markets and backgrounds. In an increasingly diverse country, he sees language as another way of making customers feel comfortable and understood.

That focus on understanding people carries through every aspect of his work.

One lesson he's learned over the years is that every customer has something they're worried about. Sometimes it's an entire household. Sometimes it's a single item.

Paul recalls one customer whose biggest concern wasn't the move itself—it was her 100-inch television.

"All she was worried about was the TV," he remembers. "She kept saying, 'Please don't break my TV.'"

The move went smoothly, the television arrived safely, and the customer was thrilled.

"Nothing happened to the TV, so she was super happy."

Moments like that remind Paul why professional movers matter. While he admits he's comfortable handling a small one-bedroom move himself, he understands why families trust experienced movers when they have valuable belongings, antiques, heirlooms, or irreplaceable items.

"They want someone they can rely on," he says.

Working remotely from Toronto presents its own challenges. But Paul credits modern technology for helping bridge the gap.

"The good thing is that everyone has their cell phone," he says. "It's either a call or a text or an email. We're always available."

As he settles into his role with Two Small Men, Paul hopes to continue growing with the company and sees opportunities to contribute even more in the future. He has an interest in business development and is excited by the possibility of helping expand operations in new markets down the road.

For now, though, his focus remains where it's always been: listening carefully, understanding what matters most to customers, and helping ensure their move goes as smoothly as possible.

Sometimes the best customer service isn't about having all the answers.

It's about making sure people feel heard.
